Book Review| Midnight Sun by Faiz Yusuf

Blurb:
Midnight Sun’ is not a book of literary poems. It’s a journal of emotions, even those one is reluctant to admit. There are letters to long-lost lovers. There are reflections of a man not even close to the best version of himself. What one wants to say aloud at one point or the other but often holds back. The book gives voice to all these and more.

Review:

Midnight sun is another poetry collection that caught my eye recently, the poems in this one are lengthy and have more substance than the short poetry collections. I loved the poetic muse presented with pictures in the book. The illustrations add to the beauty of it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.

The title suits well to the theme of the book. The poetic craft is evident from the title itself. The cover though, could have been more specific and I think there’s a creative scope for getting a better cover for a poetry book like this. I can say the cover was a bit of disappointment but the title worked for me.

I really like the concept of dividing the poems into dawn and dusk. There are 32 poems of dawn and 32 of dusk, which represent the various dynamics of life from the lenses of varied emotions. The poems lure the readers to enjoy the muse and hence add a deeper meaning to the expression. It will be very difficult to pick one poem but The Blue Neighborhood stands as a favourite.
